Wildlife of the Carlton - Carlton Reserve, Sarasota Natural Land and Wilderness

The purpose of the trail camera program is to monitor different areas of the reserve to document any occurrences of endangered species, such as the Florida panther or unusual occurrences of animals not normally seen in Sarasota County, such as the Florida black bear. It is also to provide valuable information for the Carlton Reserve Land Manager in making decisions regarding habitat management and  to provide a population index of commonly seen wildlife and fluctuations in their numbers. Photos from trail cameras have been used and are to be used in various publications, maps, kiosks and articles to illustrate to the public what types of wildlife occur on Sarasota County’s natural lands.  Finally, the mission of the trail camera program includes educating the public on the value of public lands in protecting and preserving wild places and wildlife.
